Clinical Best Practice Initiatives
Ohio's efforts to promote clinical best practices embrace different, but related, strategies and initiatives aimed at providing the public mental health workforce with state-of-the-art knowledge, skills and abilities. ODMH fosters partnerships with colleges, universities and other stakeholders in Ohio's public mental health system. Included in these partnerships are:
- Initiatives to promote wellness and address physical health disparities among Individuals with serious mental illness, including Ohio’s Tobacco and Recovery Initiative
- Coordinating Centers of Excellence (CCOEs), which teach and train practicing mental health professionals about effective approaches
- Residency and traineeship programs, which expose individuals entering the workforce to evidence-based practices in public mental health
- Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) Program, which seeks to increase the availability of qualified mental health care practitioners in underserved areas of the state (see HPSA map)
- Solutions for Ohio's Quality Improvement and Compliance (SOQIC), which is an initiative to develop a statewide standardized client record form set that covers the entire treatment process
